Depression can typically be one of three things, in my opinion. Sometimes it is purely biochemical, in which case an assessment by a psychiatrist and medication could be necessary.
Sometimes depression is what I call "stuck sadness". In that case, underlying undealt-with grief issues might be manifesting as depression.
In many cases, depression is "anger turned inward". As with grief, underlying undealt-with issues must be discovered and healed through therapeutic techniques..
Depression is often characterized by such symptoms as:
- Apathy
- Sadness
- Guilt
- Exhaustion
- Irritability
The dictionary defines anxiety as: "a feeling of worry, nervousness, or unease, typically about an imminent event or something with an uncertain outcome." Occasional anxiety is an expected part of life. There are a variety of tools, natural remedies and medications to deal with the manifestation of anxiety as the underlying issues are explored and healed.
